Tiger Woods' Masters win gives Nike investors another reason to cheer

Tiger Woods' Masters win gives Nike investors another reason to cheer

"Tiger climbs back to the top, and a guy from Wisconsin, on his first sports bet ever, wins over $1 million betting on him". Perhaps no one aside from Woods himself stood to benefit from his redemption more than Nike.

Woods rallied to win the Masters for the fifth time before a delirious audience at Augusta National.

Tiger began the tournament as third-joint favorite at 14/1, which didn't dissuade an unnamed bettor from placing an $85,000 bet on him at a William Hill sportsbook at SLS Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With this most recent triumph, Woods as now won the Masters Tournament five times - 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2019 - second only to the legendary Jack Nicklaus, who has won the tournament a record-setting six times.

Except it is not just that Woods "won" at Bethpage, at the 2002 US Open, and at Pebble Beach, at the 2000 edition, that is making a 2019 hat-trick from the heavens seem at the very least possible - it is how he prevailed on those occasions.

Then it is the British Open, at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, where nobody in this year's field has played a tournament.

Thomas acknowledged he had needed to be convinced Woods could win another major. McIlroy and Justin Thomas are right behind them at 12/1. "A big "well done" from me to @TigerWoods!", said Nicklaus on social media.

In 2010, Williams wrote that she hoped to catch Woods' major championship total with her Grand Slam total.

More immediately, Woods can become the most prolific victor in PGA Tour history. A tense-looking Phelps was seen in the crowd behind Woods during the Masters.

"So my last three major championships have been pretty good, so that in itself gives me a lot of confidence going down the road".

For the PGA Championship later this summer, Woods and Johnson are both tied with 9/1 odds. I was a little better at the PGA, but still I didn't win.
