AirPlay 2 support on Samsung Smart TVs rolling out with firmware update

Since the Apple TV app is completely integrated into the Samsung Smart TV platform, customers can just select the Apple TV icon to gain access to their entire collection of iTunes movies and television shows.

Starting May 13, the overhauled TV app, which features a fresh new look and improved functionality, will be available in over 100 countries on iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, all 2019 Samsung smart TVs and select 2018 models.

Apple's new TV app is also rolling out via an update to tvOS (also numerated 12.3) on the company's Apple TV set top boxes. While the presence of channels, iTunes content, and the forthcoming Apple TV+ are no surprise, what's missing is any reference to the other content now offered by the app on tvOS and iOS.

The TV app's legacy integrations may not offer the same level of experience as something like channels or Apple's own library of content, but they remain a solid way to centralize as much of your TV watching as possible in one app, and using the one unified Up Next queue.

The TV app is also Apple's latest home for selling and renting movies. Among them include the new Apple TV app.

A user's personalized recommendations will be pulled from a curated list of shows and movies from more than 150 video apps and streaming services and over 100,000 iTunes movies and TV shows. Furthermore, all users who subscribe to any of the premium networks mentioned will be able to download movies and TV shows for offline viewing to their iPhone or iPad.

AirPlay 2 support in Samsung Smart TVs allows customers to effortlessly play videos and other content on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac directly onto the Samsung Smart TV. Support for Vizio, LG, and Sony TVs is coming later this year, and support for Roku and Fire TV devices is in the works as well.
