'All in the Family,' 'Jeffersons' remakes: What did you think?

"It's live! Everyone's sitting at home thinking their TV's just messed up".

"Ever since I was a little boy, I would always beg my mother for a little brother - but you know, we were broke, so all we could afford was you". "There is so much more work we must do in this country we love so much", he said.

Starring Woody Harrelson, Maria Tomei, Jamie Foxx, Wanda Sykes among many others, Kimmel's 8-9:33 PM passion project scored biggest numbers in first half hour, 7.6/14, trickling down to 5.9/10 for its final few minutes. Eventually, his cast picked up the ball and plowed ahead without skipping a beat. This legendary night of television will be hosted by Lear and Kimmel, and directed by 10-time Emmy victor James Burrows.

During The Jeffersons episode, original cast member Maria Gibbs reprised her role of Florence Johnston in a surprise appearance - sending the audience into rapturous applause. Turns out, they were just throwing folks off the trail.

Producer Norman Lear and his Act III Productions are behind the live, star-studded remake of All in the Family - as well as The Jeffersons - airing on ABC.

The Jeffersons ran from 1975-1985 and followed a black family living in a predominantly white society.

Other highlights included Jennifer Hudson performing a new version of the "Jeffersons" theme song "Movin' On Up" and Lear added commentary with Kimmel in a Statler-and-Waldorf-like format. The show was loved by many, so the cast line up is stellar, to say the least.

ABC went back in time on Wednesday night as the network brought the Bunkers and Jeffersons to TV screens for a special live event.
