Burmese pilot lands plane on rear wheels after landing gear jams

The Myanmar Airlines pilot was forced to ground the plane in dramatic fashion in Mandalay, Myanmar, this (Sunday) morning after the landing equipment failed to deploy.

The Embraer 190AR plane had just arrived from Yangon carrying 82 passengers and seven crew members when the accident occurred, according to U Kyaw San, an official of MC-Jalux Airport Services at the airport.

89 people from Myanmar managed to cheat death after their pilot managed to land the plane they were in despite the lack of a front wheel.

Other footage from passengers showed smoke infiltrating the cabin as passengers awaited evacuation from the plane which made a miracle landing. "There were no injuries, the aircraft sustained substantial damage".

Heart in mouth, bystanders were able to film the miraculous emergency landing which was safely - if not gracefully - performed.

A passenger plane has landed in Myanmar, also known as Burma, without its front wheels. The pilot tried a backup emergency procedure to pull down the wheels but that was unsuccessful.

The pilot, Captain Myat Moe Aung, did two fly-bys prior to this so that air traffic controllers could see if the landing gear was down.

Captain Myat Moe Aung successfully landed the Embraer 190 aircraft on its rear wheels, before the plane's nose came to rest on the runway. Passengers scrambled to evacuate as instructions were given over the speaker system.

At least 11 people were injured when the a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane skidded off a runway while landing at Yangon airport in a storm.
