Derby County Players Mock Leeds United For Spygate After Elland Road Win

Leeds United saw their hopes of returning to the Premier League dashed on Wednesday evening, and after losing to Derby County their fans took to social media to come down hard on a villain of the piece.

At the time Leeds were leading the league and Bielsa revealed that he had spied on every team in England's second tier and it seemed to affect Derby manager Frank Lampard around the game, that Leeds won. This is the closest Leeds has come to the PL since 2006, when the club lost the play-off final.

They then took an early lead at Elland Road to make them nearly certain to progress to the final.

They will meet Aston Villa in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, belatedly exacting revenge on Leeds United after a season of dispute.

Stuart Dallas found the corner of the net to restore parity but, after Leeds went down to 10 men, Marriott struck with five minutes remaining to send them to Wembley.

Then, in their league match against Villa in April, Leeds allowed their opponents to walk in an equaliser unopposed after the home side scored while a Villa player was down injured.

While celebrating with their fans, a number of Derby players used gestures to mock the incident. The Chelsea loanees Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori posted the same message on Twitter: "I spy with my little eye, something beginning with W".

The two teams had plenty of off-pitch drama to add to contend with amid their battle on the pitch following the infamous Spygate scandal earlier this season.

"Maybe, maybe [it is sweeter]". I'm not gonna lie. "Sometimes feelings can be wrong but when we got the first goal back the belief just began to rise", he said.

But Bielsa had no complaints about his players throughout the campaign, saying: "What they have offered to the club during this season will be valued with time".

"The players have done it with their work rate through the year but we're not there yet", Lampard said. The performance tonight, we were the better team over two legs, we should have had a penalty, but it was a brilliant performance from the lads.
