Game of Thrones showrunners behind next Star Wars film

Game of Thrones showrunners behind next Star Wars film

There was a whole lot of buzz when Lucasfilm dropped the very first teaser for Star Wars: Episode IX during Star Wars Celebration last month. He said it would be smart "to take a bit of a hiatus" after the film's release.

Then, there's the concern about how Benioff and Weiss will handle a Star Wars film or series, given the rising criticism about the final season of Game of Thrones-much of it centring around the writing and pace.

Weiss are working on the upcoming Star Wars movie due out in 2022, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed during the MoffettNathanson Media and Communications Summit on Tuesday (May 14) in New York City. The only detail known about the story is that it will be separate from the "Skywalker Saga", which kicked off in 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope and which will conclude with December 20's The Rise of Skywalker.

Thus far, Star Wars fans have been expecting two live-action series to follow the recent spat of movies: the aforementioned The Mandalorian set after the fall of the empire, as well as another live-action series that will be set before the events we saw in the movie Rogue One. We're actually hard at work doing that already, ' he added. "We haven't said anything more beyond what we've announced on the next film".

Those will be the first "Star Wars" films after "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" in December 2019.

'I haven't seen [Episode] 9 finished yet, but I'm confident based on the pieces that I've seen and the script that I've read that it's going to be extremely popular, ' he said. They're set to alternate with James Cameron's planned Avatar sequels, which start in 2021 and are expected to continue every other year through 2027.

While no new movies may be coming out for a while, Iger confirmed they are developing a third Star Wars TV series for the Disney Plus streaming service, which joins Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian, and the Rogue One spinoff starring Diego Luna.
