Liverpool beats Wolves, misses out on Premier League title

Klopp's side finished the season on 98 points after a 2-0 victory over Wolves, one behind title rivals Man City, who beat Brighton 4-1 at the Amex.

City, on 95 points, have won their past 13 Premier League matches to wipe out a seven-point lead for Liverpool and are on the brink of becoming the first team to win successive titles since Manchester United in 2009.

The ex-England worldwide told the Mirror : "I don't buy into the theory that Liverpool will automatically be Manchester City's main challengers next season just because they ran them so close this time". So while the league campaign finishes with disappointment, the club still has a chance to win the most storied trophy. But I really think there is more to come. For 21 minutes, the Anfield crowd knew that Liverpool were temporarily in the top spot but as news of City's progress at Brighton filtered through Liverpool's intensity faded. "I think Liverpool will start the final as favourites and then it's up to Klopp, with his coaches and maybe some outside experts, to look at the current crop of players and decide if they're good enough, but damn it they were good enough to get 97 points".

The Egyptian and his side will now shift their focus on the UEFA Champions League final, where they will face Tottenham Hotspur at Wanda Metropolitano on June 1.

England worldwide Trent Alexander-Arnold said: "I'm gutted, it is a tough one to take but City proved they are one of the best teams in the world". Champions League hero Divock Origi also kept his place with Roberto Firmino still not fit to play. We all chipped in this season. "It was brilliant, 97 points is incredible, and only because City are there was it not enough". But here, that's how it is, no problem with that because that's the competition we are in.

And Klopp said: "We have three weeks to prepare for the Champions League final - let's give it a go".

Coady will be hoping that key assets like Neves will remain at the club as they try and further their form this season. What went before is nothing to do with us. This club is in the best moment for a long, long time and it will not end because there is one team with a point more.

"We've got clever footballers, everybody sees that". They have 198 points in two years, that's special. The boys were all there from last season apart from Alisson. We're thinking about the next game on Saturday.

"This team is not a finished article".
