NASCAR DFS: All-Star Race Playbook

Kyle Larson began his Saturday evening with the Monster Energy Open at Charlotte Motor Speedway, but he became only the third driver in NASCAR All-Star history to advance from the preliminary race to win the Monster Energy All-Star Open, following Michael Waltrip and Kasey Kahne.

"A letdown", was the way Harvick described his evening. "I pull up next to him and he dumps me into [turn] four", Bowyer said. "That's how you take the fastest auto and don't win the race with it".

Bowyer said he was unsure why Newman was upset with him.

"It was a great night for performance; just a bad night on pit road". William Byron needed a green-white-checkered finish to win the opening stage and get the chance to race for the $1 million first prize. After the race I just tapped him in the back, let him know I didn't appreciate the way he raced me.

Bowyer appeared unapologetic after the incident, saying: "Where I come from, you get punched in the nose for that and that's what he got". It doesn't take much of a man try to fight someone with a helmet on. "Then I hit him back on the back straightway and he cut across my nose in Turn 3". We're going to keep an eye on it.

They joined 15 other drivers who qualified for the All-Star field as a result of either winning a points-paying race in 2018 or 2019, won the All-Star Race before or who are previous Cup Series champions. When it was over, Clint Bowyer rushed at Ryan Newman in his vehicle, raining rights and lefts through the window like an out-of-control windup toy.

The tight racing no doubt played a part in Bowyer and Newman's fight. "I think we're in a pretty good place with it".

Busch won the opening 30-lap stage.

The two had tangled on the track several times and were both angry and frustrated when NASCAR's prime-time spectacle, which for more than three decades has showcased the series' very best, ended.

Wallace found redemption in Stage 2, again staying out on older tires for the overtime run.

A hard start to the season, combined with financial woes at Richard Petty Motorsports, left Wallace doubting himself and his ability. Suarez tried his best to take the lead from Wallace exiting turn four on the last lap, but Wallace blocked the move and sent Suarez spinning through the infield. My mental game is really shot right now, but damn it feels good to win something. "We'll see what we can get tonight". Its third-place finish earlier this month at Dover was its first top 10 since March at Phoenix.

Two more drivers will move into the All-Star Race from the Open, the leader of the 20-lap second stage and the victor after a final stage of 10 laps.
