Patriots Finalizing Two-Year Contract Extension With Julian Edelman

Patriots Finalizing Two-Year Contract Extension With Julian Edelman

According to NFL Network, Edelman will receive a two-year extension from the New England Patriots with the goal of keeping the star wide receiver in a Patriots uniform to the end of his career. Despite losing one season to injury, no receiver has seen more targets over the last six years than Edelman. ESPN's Mike Reiss reports the new deal includes an $8 million signing bonus and $12 million guaranteed.

The Super Bowl 53 MVP is finalizing an extension with the Patriots, according to a report from NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Taking over for departed veteran wideout Wes Welker in 2013, Edelman thrived as Tom Brady's new favorite target. Edelman also averaged 10.7 yards per punt return. Edelman, who turns 33 on Wednesday, has spent his entire career with the Patriots, winning three Super Bowl rings along the way. It was his first 100-yard game in a Super Bowl, a performance he managed against one of the best defenses in National Football League history.

The Patriots are giving Julian Edelman the two things every college graduate wants: money and job security. The Kent State product caught 26 passes this postseason, including seven passes for 96 yards in New England's AFC Championship win over Kansas City. Edelman earned Super Bowl MVP honors for his efforts.

He missed the first four games of 2018 because of a suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, but came back with a vengeance.
