ASSERTING that the Congress will be losing the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday claimed that the party has fielded "two batsmen" to defend the "naamdar" (dynast).

The West Bengal battleground has been a particularly sensitive one for both the BJP and TMC.

More than 100 supporters of Modi's party were detained for violence in West Bengal on Tuesday, police said. The violence broke out during a roadshow of BJP president Amit Shah in Kolkata. A bust of 19th century Bengali icon Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was also vandalised during the incident.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Ahmed Patel and CPM leader Sitaram Yechury asked why the poll panel chose to let campaigning continue till 10 pm on Thursday despite having taken note of the violence.

"The ECI is taking all the decisions at the behsest of the BJP". "I think justice has to be done. The ECI is biased", she alleged.

"This is probably the first time that ECI has invoked Article 324 in this manner but it may not be last", an election commission official said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"I have never criticised any constitutional body but today the people of Bengal are under attack, the federal structure is under attack".

"They can kill me or send me to jail but I am not afraid".

Modi further said political leaders who had exploited the commoners were now abusing him.

Manjul, for Firstpost, takes a jibe at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her alleged connection with those involved in chit fund scam cases. The students were holding "Amit Shah Go Back" posters at College Street. Why was he (Shah) not showcaused? This is not EC's direction; it is the BJP's direction. "It is hoped that the vandals are traced by the state administration", EC said.

"Modi has travelled the entire country for his campaign, addressing rallies with the help of teleprompters".

"Bengal will reject the destruction they offer", he said. Banerjee said in a statement shared by O'Brien.

Law and order has been a casualty of strong-arm politics, a charge levied by each against the other.

Kumar is the daughter of the late deputy prime minister who parted ways with Indira Gandhi in the 1970s. You removed him because he is capturing hawala operators.

Banerjee has been claiming in her poll rallies that the BJP brought crores of rupees through hawala to be distributed among the people to buy votes.
