Remembering Grumpy Cat's prolific advertising career-from Friskies to Grumppuccino

Some rankings estimate Grumpy Cat made $100 million from her film, media appearances, sponsorship deals and merchandise sales.

Viral Internet sensation, Grumpy Cat, has sadly died at seven years old after she was unable to "overcome" complications from a urinary tract infection. She soon became the universal digital shorthand for displeasure, with thousands of memes and gifs of her being circulated online to communicate apathy or cynicism.

Grumpy Cat's angry expression was the result of being born with dwarfism and an underbite.

Real name Tardar Sauce, Grumpy Cat skyrocketed to fame in 2012 thanks to a Reddit post and never looked back, becoming one of the most popular animals on the internet alongside the likes of Doug the Pug, Lil Bub, and Manny the Frenchie. Not to mention, her book Grumpy Cat claimed the No.7 spot on the New York Times bestselling list in August, 2013.

In an emotional statement, Grumpy's family announced via the official Twitter account of Grumpy Cat that she was suffering from a recent urinary tract infection. Grumpy Cat, the frown-faced Internet sensation, has made almost $100 million for its owner in just two years.

The note continued, "Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world - even when times were tough". Her image quickly spread as a meme. She even has an agent to handle her public appearances.

The cat had more than 2 million followers on Instagram and more than 1 million on Twitter.

Now, I am aware of the fact that Grumpy Cat must've been a lot of people's favourite meme and this news must be devastating. "Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere", her owners wrote.
