Trump Has Hour-Long Phone Call With Vladimir Putin

Mr. Trump gave more details to reporters about his hour-long phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he said was primarily focused on the situation in Venezuela.

"But what I can tell you is that this administration - unlike the previous one - takes election meddling seriously, and we're going to do everything that we can to prevent it from happening".

The Kremlin said that the "long" conversation was at Trump's initiative, and made no mention of discussion of the Mueller probe. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Maduro had been ready to flee Venezuela on Tuesday but reversed his plan after Russian Federation intervened.

The treaty, which was signed in 2010 and expires in 2021, restricts both the USA and Russian Federation to 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear warheads on a maximum of 700 deployed intercontinental ballistic missiles and strategic bombers.

Earlier, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the two leaders discussed a potential new multilateral atomic treaty between the United States, Russia, and China or an extension of the current U.S. -Russia strategic nuclear accord.

It said the two leaders agreed to maintain contacts on different levels and expressed satisfaction with the "businesslike and constructive nature" of the conversation. He actually sort of smiled when he said something to the effect that 'it started off as a mountain and it ended up being a mouse. The United States and most other Western countries support Guaido, who invoked the constitution in January to declare himself interim president, arguing that Maduro's 2018 re-election was illegitimate.

Meanwhile, she also said that Trump and Putin also "spoke about North Korea for a good bit of time", where he stressed the importance of denuclearization.

When asked on Friday about the call, Trump said he did not tell the Russian president to halt the Kremlin's efforts to interfere in American elections. "If true, Trump had almost 90 minutes to bring up Russian interference in future elections and he didn't".

"The president said several times on this front as well - the need and the importance of Russian Federation stepping up and continuing to help and put pressure on North Korea to denuclearize", Sanders said.
