Bangladesh-Sri Lanka washout sets World Cup record

Bangladesh-Sri Lanka washout sets World Cup record

Heavy overnight and early morning rain delayed the scheduled 10:30 am local time (0930 GMT) start of Tuesday´s match.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka come into this match needing victories for different reasons.

Sri Lanka's World Cup match against Bangladesh was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain in Bristol on Tuesday. "I know logistically it would have been a big headache for the tournament organisers. They have got tickets to see a game of cricket and it would be up to them if they can get there the day after".

The result will leave Sri Lanka frustrated as it is the second instant of a wash-out for the Island nation. "I know that it would have been hard, but we have got quite a lot of time in between games, and if we have got to travel a day later, then so be it. I don't know if they can keep a reserve day for us", he said.

Shakib, who scored two fifties and a hundred to be the tournament's leading run scorer, sustained a thigh strain during the England game last Friday.

Sri Lanka (SL): Dimuth Karunaratne (C), Kusal Perera, Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Mendis (WK), Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Thisara Perera, Isuru Udana, Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal and Lastih Malinga.

"It's enough for a club like us to make a significant difference", added Brown, who said all three World Cup matches in Bristol had been 11,500 sell-outs. I think sometimes you might think if you share the points, it's fine. We really targeted this sort of game as two points, and I know that Sri Lanka would have fought very hard and are no pushovers at all. Sri Lanka were beaten by New Zealand, but bounced back against Afghanistan. So we are well aware of what they have got and we know what's coming and we've got some plans to try and deal with that.

He is expected to join the team, before the team's next #CWC19 game, which will be played against Australia on 15th. "We'll be hopeful that they are going to worry about some of our players".
