Champions League: Tottenham defender Danny Rose reminded of loss to Liverpool

Champions League: Tottenham defender Danny Rose reminded of loss to Liverpool

"It's not draining coming to play for your country", he said as reported by Independent.

Runners-up on the night thanks to a penalty from Mohamed Salah and a brilliant left-footed finish by Divock Origi, the Tottenham contingent in the England squad - Rose, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Dele Alli - were soon forced to meet up with their victorious Liverpool counterparts just a few days after the final in Madrid for England's Nations League games.

You are reminded every day you lost and that was a unique experience for me.

Rose made 37 appearances for Spurs last season and featured for England as they lost 3-1 after extra time in their semi-final tie against the Dutch.

When asked how Liverpool players Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez had been with their Tottenham counterparts in the squad, Rose said: "They've been great".

"I have never been through that myself".

"There have been some difficulties - no signings, playing at Wembley (while White Hart Lane was renovated) and I think the club and players have shown great character".

Reports in the media in recent days have suggested that Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign the Germany worldwide from Paris Saint-Germain this summer as Spurs set about bolstering their squad.

Rose was strongly linked with a move last summer but the England global returned to fitness and won back his first-team place from Ben Davies.

Yes, Joel Matip put in some fine performances during the second half of the season but the reality is that the 27-year-old is not someone who can be relied for a really long time.

The former Leeds man said: "If I'm back at Tottenham next season, great, if I'm not - great".

"It's not about regular first-team football".

"I don't know what the future holds now". I'm looking forward to a break.
