Derby County could already have the answer if Lampard moves on

Lampard, who turns 41 on June 20, enjoyed a hugely successful spell as a player for the Blues, becoming the club's record goalscorer and winning three Premier League titles as well as the Champions League.

Speaking on Monday, Rams owner Mel Morris affirmed: "We've made it clear to everyone, but most importantly to Frank, that we want to retain him for the long term".

Terry has been on the coaching staff at Aston Villa since October, learning the trade and helping Dean Smith's team beat the Rams to clinch promotion in the play-off final at Wembley.

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has tipped Frank Lampard to succeed at Chelsea if he is appointed as the club's new manager.

Frank Lampard is the favourite to take over at Chelsea but Derby County say they have not received an approach for him yet. Both clubs have been contacted for comment by Press Association Sport.

"It would be brilliant for him".

Several sources close to Chelsea have been talking about the return of a host of club legends to Stamford Bridge, which is set to be kick-started by the announcement of Cech's appointment in a leadership role across football operations.

The 60-year-old Italian was in the position for just one year after succeeding compatriot Antonio Conte last summer.

He guided the Blues to third in the Premier League and won the Europa League, but still endured a tough campaign at Stamford Bridge with fans not convinced by his style of play.

Lampard is understood to have been offered a contract extension by his current employers, while Chelsea could have to fork out as much as £4 million in compensation for a deal to go ahead.
