It Appears That Jessica Biel Is An Anti-Vaxxer

On Wednesday, Jessica Biel found herself in the internet's crosshairs after a photo of the actress and anti-vaxxer activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. surfaced online.

Update: Jessica Biel posted a statement on Instagram early Thursday morning, writing that she is "not against vaccinations - I support children getting vaccinations", but that she is against the proposed California bill.

The pair were voicing their opposition to a vaccine bill which seeks to limit medical exemptions in California and make it more hard for parents to bypass the rules requiring children to be vaccinated before enrolling in school. Not because I don't believe in vaccinations, but because I believe in giving doctors and the families they treat the ability to decide what's best for their patients and the ability to provide that treatment.

The "7th Heaven" actress defended appearing before Sacramento lawmakers earlier this week to voice opposition to SB277, a state bill which would limit medical exemptions from vaccines.

According to the Los Angeles Times, officials estimate that about 40% of the 11,500 medical exemptions requested each year would be denied under the bill, which is now under review.

SB 276 would require the State Department of Public Health to develop a statewide standardized medical exemption request form made available for use by licensed physicians and surgeons.

But Biel's Instagram comments also saw messages of support from those in the anti-vaccination community, with one mom thanking her for "taking a stand for freedom and children's health".

Biel, who is married to musician Justin Timberlake, "was a very effective advocate", Kennedy said. Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, launched the Children's Health Defense (CHD), an extension of his World Mercury Project, which studied the safety of vaccines.

All this being said, when pictures of Biel lobbying against a pro-vaccine bill first hit the internet, it almost exploded with reactions.

In his caption, Kennedy called Biel "courageous".

Several other California politicians shared pictures of their discussions with Biel and Kennedy. That same year, an anonymous "friend" told In Touch that Biel and Timberlake had not vaccinated their infant son, Silas. "She has friends who have been vaccine-injured who would be forced to leave the state". "She feels that vaccination could cause complications", a Touch Weekly source claimed at the time.
