MENCS: Joey Logano wins Fire Keepers Casino 400 at Michigan Featured

Denny Hamlin and Aric Almirola both led briefly, but it's has been mostly Logano out front.

Joey Logano came out on top at the Firekeepers Casino 400 on Monday.

It marked Logano's third career win at Michigan International Speedway and all three have been when he started on the pole.

Logano, Truex and Busch were ready for a green flag shootout before a caution with four laps to go because of Erik Jones suffering a flat tire and spinning.

"Winning at MI means so much for Team Penske and Ford", Logano said after the race. Logano and Truex were up front on the restart, along with Kurt and Kyle Busch, and Logano pulled ahead and held on.

Joey Logano won today's Fire Keepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Then the 22 went like a whole auto length before the restart zone. "Looking back at all the data it looked like Joey and Martin both fired at about the same time, although Joey had a little bit of wheel spin there, but we didn't see anything that was out of bounds there".

Logano, not surprisingly, had a different view. So, I don't know how you get away with that. "I had a good start, though, wasn't it?" It was a good one. "That one felt good", Logano says with a smile.

NASCAR said it reviews all restarts and did not find anything problematic with this one.

The Monster Energy Cup Series will have next weekend off before heading to Sonoma Raceway Sunday, June 23rd at 3:00 p.m.

It came after Ford teams and drivers were practically ordered to get a win by Edsel Ford III during a dinner last week.

Kids can experience pit road on Sunday morning, sign the start/finish line and view the cars and teams up close on race day. Logano was actually the first driver to win from the pole all season - although all three of his career wins at MIS were as the pole victor.

It was a dominant visit to MIS for Logano, who led a track-record 163 laps in the race.

Logano punched the gas, the backend stepped out, he left tire marks and he still put a gap on everyone by the time he got to the flag stand.

On the restart, Logano was first and took the outside lane, while Truex was second and on the inside.

It has never been easier to purchase tickets and camping at Michigan International Speedway in 2019.

And Kurt Busch said he thought Logano jumped the restart too, but he also admitted it's exactly what he would have done on a final restart too.

"I really wanted it to go green at the end with Truex", Busch said. I was going to push Truex right through the #22. Kurt Busch finished second, followed by Truex, Suárez, Kyle Busch, Keselowski, Harvick, Ryan Newman, Blaney, and Bowman.
