Mourinho Return Reports Affect Next Chelsea Manager Odds

Benitez is still under contract with Newcastle, but that deal expires at the end of June, and Chelsea are looking to secure his signature and prevent losing him to other suitors.

However, Chelsea chiefs are reportedly making last-minute moves to ensure Sarri reconsiders his stand, after guiding the west London dwellers to a third-place finish in the Premier League alongside winning the Europa League.

It's being reported by Goal.com that Chelsea have already spoken with Frank Lampard about taking over as manager should Maurizio Sarri leave the club to join Juventus.

The Catalan went on to win 14 trophies in four years at the Nou Camp, including two Champions League titles, with his Barca side among the most revered in football history.

Any agreement for the 60-year-old to head back to Italy will then prompt an official approach from Chelsea to Derby for permission to speak to Lampard about becoming Roman Abramovich's 12th manager in 16 years.

Lampard had an impressive debut season in management with the Rams last term and he was lauded for the attacking style of play which almost propelled the club back to the Premier League.

Club legend Frank Lampard, Max Allegri and even Jose Mourinho are some possible replacement if Sarri quits. "The Manchester United game really was impressive - not only the result, the way they played was really impressive". I know it's a smaller club but we have seen him do it. The obvious problem is replacing Eden Hazard who is perhaps the only player that comes close to Lampard when naming the Chelsea's greatest player of the Premier League era. The transfer ban is a blow to the club, but it actually works in Lampard's favour. So if there is a turn of poor form under Lampard it is likely the players on the pitch will receive the supporters wrath more so than the manager.
