Muncy's home run the difference as Giants fall 1-0

Muncy's home run the difference as Giants fall 1-0

The only run the Dodgers would need would come eight pitches into the game, a pimped Max Muncy homer off Madison Bumgarner - who greeted it with shouts - as the Giants fell Sunday, 1-0, in front of 34,098 at Oracle Park.

San Francisco will hand the ball to left-hander Madison Bumgarner, while the Dodgers will counter with fireballing right-hander Walker Buehler.

Muncy's majestic blast came off Bumgarner, who was none too pleased with the Dodgers' slugger after he briefly admired his bomb. When Bumgarner turned around, he saw that Muncy was still at the plate, and that's when he began jawing at the Dodgers slugger, telling him he needed to pick it up and get around the bases. First of all, Muncy just hit a ball 428 feet, so please excuse him for not sprinting out of the batter's box. "You run, '" Muncy said. Via SportsNet LA, Muncy said he told Bumgarner, "If you don't want me to watch the ball, you can get it out of the ocean".

With the total failure of offense, Sunday afternoon was ultimately more of an exhibition for potential buyers looking to pad their rotation for a post-season run with the pedigree of a man born to pitch in October. And to put a cherry on top of it all, he revealed his response to Bumgarner yelling at him.

"He just struck a pose and walked further than I liked", Bumgarner said.

That wasn't even really an egregious look by Muncy, but, as noted, it's Bumgarner. I can't. ... They want to let everybody be themselves, then let me be myself. Buehler also beat the Giants on April 30 and is 3-0 in five starts against San Francisco. A one-run loss and one-run victory started and finished the series.

Giants: RHP Tyler Beede (0-2, 8.15) takes another shot at his first major league win when he faces the visiting San Diego Padres on Tuesday.

Giants first baseman Brandon Belt was scratched from Sunday's starting lineup against the Dodgers after coming down with a stomach illness. Buster Posey (right hamstring strain) ran on a treadmill before the game and will run the bases during Monday's off day.
