Party Chat on the PS4 will be receiving an update

With Death Stranding coming in November, The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima still to have fixed release dates, it looks like PlayStation 4 has still plenty to deliver for the next couple years under that label. While PC Gamers are well familiar with the likes of Discord or Skype, console gamers have to rely on built-in voice chat functions to talk with their friends on their consoles.

Have you been wanting improved Party chat?

Users can test out these new features by registering to Sony's Preview Program, a beta testing program that gives PS4 owners the chance to test out new features, including improved audio quality for voice chat and improved network connectivity.

Increased maximum Party participants from 8 to 16.

There's no word on when the update that'll bring these new features will land, but Sony is recruiting testers to try them out.

"If you participate in the Preview Program, you won't be able to join the same Party or use Share Play with others who aren't participating in the program", reads the blog post. This code comes with your acceptance into the beta test and can be used by up to 20 people.

While that's probably the most exciting aspect of this update for many people, it isn't the only new feature worth talking about.

In order to participate in this test, you'll first need to register for the PS4 System Software Beta. Players can use this feature to convert their Party voice chat to text on their Second Screen. However, this part of the beta test is only available in English and for US residents only.

In addition, we finally get Party chat on mobile, just obviously not in the way we want it.
