Vikings, Rudolph reach contract extension agreement

Vikings, Rudolph reach contract extension agreement

No matter which sports book you look at, the Detroit Lions are now picked to come in dead last in the NFC North this coming season.

Rudolph's contract negotiations played out after the Vikings selected Smith, sometimes in a public fashion, and the tight end sounded nearly sheepish Tuesday about how much time he'd spent in the news because of his contract status this spring.

It certainly made sense to tie Kyle Rudolph to the New England Patriots.

With the Vikings drafting Alabama tight end Irv Smith Jr. with the 50th overall pick, there was speculation that Rudolph - who has spent his entire career with the Vikes - could be dealt.

He hasn't missed a game over the last four seasons. The Vikings and Rudolph had previously been at an impasse in contract talks with the Patriots considered a possible trade destination. While he has never truly featured among the elite of elite tight ends, Rudolph has undeniably been a solid target for the duration of his eight-year Minnesota career.

"Usually when you line up with three tight ends, the defense constricts or gets bigger guys in there". "On that day, all I knew is that I would be playing in the National Football League, realizing my childhood dream".

If the Vikings weren't serious about the way they view Rudolph's role as a necessary component to the success of this offense, they might have taken a gamble that they could have been just as successful without him. "Is Kyle going to be here?' And every one of them, when I said, 'Yeah, ' were all glad", coach Mike Zimmer said. If I need to work on something, he'll let me know.

The Vikings will wrap up their offseason program on Thursday with the final day of minicamp.
