Bautista Agut wears down Pella to reach Wimbledon semi-final

A 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kei Nishikori gave the No. 2-seeded Federer his 100th match win at the All England Club, the first man to reach that total at any Grand Slam tournament.

The 37-year-old is also the oldest man to make the last-four of a major since Jimmy Connors at the 1991 U.S. Open.

To push Federer back, Nadal will have to punish Federer when he comes to the net, as he did with Sam Querrey on Wednesday, winning 12 or 27 points in which the American came forward.

Federer has been in outstanding form considering he won the Halle Open prior to arriving at Wimbledon. Though Nishikori managed to keep his serve in the long first game, Federer got the better of him in the seventh game and rode the break to a one-set advantage. No. 23 Roberto Bautista Agut. I'm just glad to be one of the guys who is 30 plus and to still be in that group who are getting this far. Again serving for that set at 6-5, he erased a trio of break points for Querrey before holding - and finally was on his way. "I stay calm", said Federer, whose ability to stay ice cool under pressure seemed to be the only part of his game still functioning in the first set. Federer's first Wimbledon title came two years later.

Federer was broken in his opening service game but didn't have much trouble after that, beating eighth-seeded Kei Nishikori 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

The 31-year-old Bautista Agut, who had never been past the fourth round of a Grand Slam before, was the only player to reach the quarterfinals without dropping a set. It's grass-court tennis and I'm going to come out there and play attacking tennis.' And if he can defend that, that's too good.

"Things could have gone a different way if I had lost the first set but I was very pleased with the second and third". Novak held at 15 with an ace in game nine to grab a lead and sealed the set with a break in game ten after a backhand error from Goffin for a 6-4 in 48 minutes. Federer is the first player to win 100 matches at one Grand Slam tournament.

Nadal's victory meant it was the first time more than one Spanish man had reached the Wimbledon semis in the same year.

"The beginning, " Federer said, "was brutal". "He was everywhere", said a shattered Goffin.

"I know they haven't played here in a long time. He was dictating the play from the baseline", Djokovic told Wimbledon.com after the match.

After a slow start, Djokovic took charge and dominated in the rest of the match, fending off five out of six break points and taking half of the return points for six breaks from nine opportunities.

As for facing Djokovic, he said: "I played some really, really tough and hard matches against Novak".
