Biden healthcare plan would curb drug prices, raise taxes on rich

Joe Biden, in a bid to protect ObamaCare amid calls from his party's left flank to replace it with "Medicare-for-all", announced a plan Monday to add a "public option" to the 2010 health care law. The plan would also allow Medicare to directly negotiate prescription prices, allow drugs to be imported from overseas, and increase the value of tax credits to lower premiums so more Americans could get coverage.

Among other ideas, Biden's plan would also boost tax credits for health care coverage and allow residents in states without expanded medicaid premium-free access to a public option. "But I mean, I mean, it's a flat racist attack".

"I know how hard it was to get passed", he added. Support drops when people realize they would not be able to keep their private insurance, whether their employer provides it or not; that their taxes would substantially go up to pay for it; that such a plan would eliminate choice and eventually ration care; and, that the current Medicare program would disappear.

Last year, while campaigning for congressional candidates, he talked about fighting him because of the crude way he has talked about women. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris, all single-payer advocates.

The Sanders campaign's chart, sent to the press late Monday, came after Biden told an audience of around 200 Iowa seniors that, under Medicare for All, "Medicare as you know it goes away"-a line that quickly drew comparisons to President Donald Trump's claim a year ago that Medicare for All would lead to "Medicare for none". I watched it. Starting over makes no sense to me at all.

She explained that she interpreted the moderator's question as asking whether she'd be willing to give up her existing coverage as part of a single-payer model. "According to a recent survey, as many as one in four adults go without insurance at some point in a given year. They still are. But I'm surprised that so many Democrats are running on getting rid of it", he said.

Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper warns that Republicans will brand single-payer as "socialism".

"If we were in high school, I'd take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him", Biden told a crowd at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., in March 2018.

At the least, the 2020 campaign dynamics illustrate Democrats' overall leftward shift on health care.

Sanders will deliver a health care speech Wednesday and is already hitting back at Biden. But ObamaCare's been severely weakened since GOP President Trump succeeded Obama in the White House.

Yet with the exception of Biden, the moderates are languishing far back in polls, leaving the former vice president to capitalize on the dividing lines and promising that he will do what Obama couldn't.
