Google and Amazon hug it out

The search giant further says, "Chromecast and Chromecast built-in users have access to over 2,000 apps for content and games, and starting today, you can cast content straight from the Prime Video app to your TV".

As their businesses continue to overlap, the rivalry between Amazon and Google grew, and the two companies started to pull their own services from each other's platforms, ensuring the other couldn't yield any benefits from their own services. Amazon claimed at the time it only wanted to make sure people had the best streaming media experience with its content.

However, as announced in April this year, Google and Amazon have eased the rivalry, and YouTube app has now arrived on Fire TV and Prime Video is back to Chromecast and Android TV.

The first evidence that the spat might be resolved came in December 2018 when Amazon began stocking Chromecast products again. That was, apparently, enough to get Amazon to the negotiating table. Additionally, users can use voice commands to play, pause, rewind, fast forward and skip to the next video within YouTube.

Now, it all comes to fruition.

The official YouTube app is coming back to Amazon's Fire TV devices as part of an agreement that also brings Amazon's Prime Video app to Google's Chromecast devices. In the months since, Amazon rolled out a very welcome Apple TV app (though one suspects that favour might not extend in the other direction).

Amazon Prime members will also be happy to hear that Amazon's Prime Video now works with Chromecast. No more sketchy workarounds or shamefully switching to that hastily purchased Fire TV just to watch The Expanse. "With the YouTube app, you can access music videos, your favorite creators, movies, shows, news and more", says Google. It was previously only on the Nvidia Shield and a few TVs.
