Laimbeer, Thibault Named 2019 WNBA All-Star Head Coaches

Washington Mystics forward Elena Delle Donne and Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson were named team captains for this month's WNBA All-Star Game.

Canada's Kia Nurse has been named a starter for the WNBA all-star game on July 27 in Las Vegas.

Starters for the 2019 WNBA All-Star Game were announced on ESPN's The Jump. Delle Donne's team lost to Candace Parker's squad a year ago in the All-Star Game. The Washington Mystics star led the fan balloting.

Delle Donne and Wilson will select their respective rosters in the WNBA All-Star Draft by first choosing from the remaining pool of eight starters and then from the pool of 12 reserves.

Other frontcourt players include Wilson's teammate in Las Vegas' Liz Cambage, Phoenix's Brittney Griner, Seattle's Natasha Howard and Connecticut's Jonquel Jones.

The 23-year-old second year guard joins Kayla McBride of the Las Vegas Aces, Jewell Loyd of the Seattle Storm and Chelsea Gray of the Los Angeles Sparks as backcourt starters.

Across the WNBA, Nurse ranks in the top 10 of multiple offensive categories. She is third in free throws made (56) and sixth in attempts (61).

The league's coaches will vote for the 12 reserves - three guards, five frontcourt players and four utility choices. Additional details about the All-Star Draft will be announced at a later date. They are voted on by league coaches. Howard and Nurse are each making their All-Star debut. She has started all 15 games for NY this season.

What makes it even more special for Wilson is that the game will be played in Las Vegas.

Laimbeer, a two-time WNBA Coach of the Year (2003, 2015), has earned All-Star head coaching honors for the third time. She captained one of the teams last season, and Candace Parker captained the other.

"It's an honour to not only represent the New York Liberty but also my home country of Canada in the 2019 WNBA all-star game", Nurse said.
