Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus release ‘Old Town Road’ remix

With four performers on the new remix, one would think it'd be oppressive to the light nature of a hit like "Old Town Road". It's not one, it's not the other.

A couple of hours after he fired off the above tweet, Lil Nas X - real name Montero Lamar Hill - tweeted: "Ok mariah carey lets get this remix in" which, at this point in 2019, could honestly end up happening.

The remixed version stays true to the original, with the addition of guest verses by mumble-rapper Young Thug and country yodeling phenom Mason Ramsey.

Lil Nas X, unstoppable, is keen to do yet another 'Old Town Road' remix with... Thug adds a dash of country twang and seems to be having a lot of fun with the track, taking his usual subject matter (money, drugs, women) and giving them a more country vibe. But with country trap, I in no way want to take credit for that. Still, an artist of his caliber in the hip-hop genre at least somewhat paved the way for Lil Nas X's hit to become so popular. That distinction would go to Nelly and Tim McGraw's 2004 collaboration "over and over".

Lil Nas X released his debut EP, "7", on Columbia Records on June 21. The song was the second single from Nelly's album Suit and peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts. Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Mason Ramsey fit together like puzzle pieces.

The rapper, who recently came out as gay, has exploded onto the scene to become an overnight star, with his track "Old Town Road" now spending its 14th week at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
