‘National’ Rogers wireless service outage frustrating first responders

Phone, text, and data services are still active but Rogers says some customers may experience dropped calls.

Widespread network outages have been effecting mobile services since at least Sunday afternoon.

A sudden nationwide outage affecting Rogers mobile phone services has left customers in the dark.

Toronto firefighters say they are getting calls from their partners at Toronto police and the moment they answer, the call is dropped. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and our teams are working hard to address the interruption as quickly as possible", Rogers spokesperson Michelle Kelly explained to CTV News.

Telus says its customers began reporting an inability to receive or place voice calls with Freedom Mobile or Rogers customers starting about 2 p.m. Sunday.

During the peek of the outage, the London Police Service in Ontario said that the outage meant that wireless users couldn't call 911 for emergencies.

The service interruption may intermittently affect some customers using 2G and 3G networks on Rogers, Fido and Chatr. It says those problems were resolved about 1 a.m. Monday.
