Popular TV show Friends leaves Netflix for new HBO service

WarnerMedia is launching a new streaming platform known as HBO Max to compete with other platforms. Another popular show that will be leaving the streaming platform in 2021 is "The Office", which is another bad news for the fans of the show.

The company announced that the "Friends" series will go to Warner's streaming service in early 2020.

Cape Town - WarnerMedia on Tuesday announced that its subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) streaming service it plans to launch in autumn-2020 will be called HBO Max with a massive raft of newly-commissioned shows.

Netflix, in a comment on Twitter, said it was "sorry to see "Friends" go" at the beginning of 2020. The upcoming media-service provider which will launch in spring next year will be loaded with some 10,000 hours of content, including all episodes of 90s, hit "Friends", acting as a competition to Netflix, Hulu, and Disney Plus. "Thanks for the memories, gang", Netflix tweeted reacting to WarnerMedia's announcement.

According to Variety, Pretty Little Liars and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air will also leave Netflix for HBO Max when it launches next spring. This made it seem like HBO Max would include all of these networks as part of the streaming service, which has confused those that are already subscribed to some of them.

"HBO's world-class programming leads the way, the quality of which will be the guiding principle for our new array of Max Originals, our exciting acquisitions, and the very best of the Warner Bros. libraries".

HBO Max will also be developing new original series of its own, which we have listed in the gallery below.

Love Life, a 10-episode half-hour romantic comedy anthology series starring Anna Kendrick, who will also executive produce alongside Paul Feig. It is now also preparing to lose the entire library of Friends, reputedly one of its most popular shows, after HBO Max paid around $400 million for rights over five years.

There are also new exclusive film production deals with Greg Berlanti, one of Hollywood's most prolific and successful producers, and Reese Witherspoon.
