Truck Spills Money On Highway, Drivers Stop To Grab It

Few have been as lucky as those who were driving on Atlanta's Interstate 285 Tuesday night, when money rained down from the heavens- or at least the truck up ahead.

Viral video captured the aftermath - dozens of opportunistic drivers pulled over and parked in the middle of the road, taking to the streets to collect as much as their fists would allow.

Upon speaking to the crew of an armored auto that was parked on the interstate's shoulder, police said they learned that the cash fell out when the vehicle's side door opened during transport. It felt like a movie or something out of a video game, not something you would see in real life.

By Wednesday night, however, a handful of people had stepped forward to return a chunk of the money, according to Dunwoody Police spokesman Sergeant Robert Parsons. The first thing I did was I pulled over and started picking up some money.

By the time the police arrived, all of the motorists had left the scene and there was barely any money left behind. Police are checking social media video to find the drivers with sticky fingers.

Many drivers said they were in disbelief.

"I've seen it in the movies", he said.

For those who picked up cash and kept it for themselves, charges could include theft of lost or mislaid property and could be more serious depending on the amount.

"While we certainly understand the temptation, it's still theft and the money should be returned", police wrote in a Facebook post.

Lewis, who did not return messages requesting comment, proudly shared the police department's photo of him returning the money on his Facebook page.

Judging from footage taken at the scene, it seems most people decided the right thing to do was to get out of their cars and make hay while the sun shined, in some kind of weird motorway-based version of The Crystal Maze.
