This cool new Google Maps feature is coming to your phone soon

Google has been working on a new UI for Google Maps that uses augmented reality to show you which way to walk using arrows and directions placed in the real world via a live view on your phone.

"There's nothing like exploring a city on foot - it's a great way to take in the sights and sounds of a new place", the technology giant said in a blog post.

There are other upgrades in the latest version of Google Maps such as a "Reservations" tab, where you can see your bookings and a timeline feature that allows you to record the places you visit. The Timeline feature has also been updated for Android. Then, the company formally announced this new AR navigation feature at Google I/O earlier this year, but still limited its access to Pixel smartphones. This feature works offline as well, and Google says that it is coming to Android and iOS both in the coming weeks.

Earlier this summer, Google Maps also added crowdedness predictions to United Kingdom public transport in an effort to help users avoid the busiest buses and trains during rush hour.

If you're finding it hard to use navigation on Maps, the AR mode will surely come in handy, as you can see in the GIF below. It was a really cool idea that could make it much easier to get around different places.

Again, users should see Reservations inside of Google Maps soon. You can add these locations to lists and share them with friends, whether you want to share a recap of your trip or give them recommendations.

Users must first search for a location by typing it out or selecting it on the map.
