Xbox Scarlett specs: Microsoft reveals important next-gen console details

Speaking at the microphones of the GI Show, the boss of Microsoft's Xbox Game Studios has in fact tackled the subject of the acquisition of software houses, and of the exclusive future of Xbox One and Xbox Scarlett, reporting that the strategy of the Redmond house envisages the possibility of creating new multi-platform titles. That may not be the case for future games in the franchise. Booty stated that The Outer Worlds would suit Xbox exclusivity due to its resources and support that could foster the longevity of a unique IP.

"Making sure that all four generations of content - so the original Xbox games that run on your Xbox One today, the OG Xbox; the 360 games that run on your Xbox One; your Xbox One games; and the new generation game - all run on the next platform is important to us", Spencer told Gamespot.

He continued, talking about how games like Halo, Forza, and Sea of Thieves fit the platform and how Outer Worlds could possibly have those same qualities. "Like what can it withstand?" Is it a narrative, is it a set of characters, is it a universe that's big enough that you could start to add onto it?' Elsewhere, both The Outer Worlds and Psychonauts 2 will be multiplatform releases, despite developers Obsidian and Double Fine respectively being owned by Microsoft.

"The thing that's interesting is, this generation, we've really focused on 4K visuals and how we bring both movies through 4K Blu-ray and video streaming, and with Xbox One X allowing games to run at 4K visuals will make really strong visual enhancements next generation".

The Outer Worlds is now being published by Private Division, Take-Two's indie-centric publishing arm.

Our conversations with Phil Spencer covered much more in addition to this deep dive into the next-gen Xbox console. Although, it's nearly certain this hypothetical sequel would end up on PC as well, given Microsoft's attitude towards the system. Since The Outer Worlds 1 isn't even released yet, Booty wouldn't be drawn into speculation, though his earlier comments suggest that it might be possible for the sequel to release on multiple consoles. Booty also confirmed that the studio is also working on several other, unannounced titles for the Xbox.
